Bringing to life the strong brand identity that characterises the Ryder Cup at Le Golf National, Paris, and behind the scenes creating remarkable team rooms for both the USA and Europe.
The Ryder Cup is a biennial team golf competition, dating back to 1927, pitting the best players from Europe and the United States against each other and attracting the attention of sports fans all over the world.
Historical involvement
Our involvement with the Ryder Cup goes back decades, however the partnership took a major step forward in 1997 at Valderrama, Spain, when we delivered all on-course branding and wayfinding, tented village and hospitality signage, sponsor branding as well as external routing and entrances. On the course the late, great Seve Ballesteros captained the European team to victory.
From 2006, at The K Club, Dublin, we have been involved in every Ryder Cup to be held on European soil, delivering an impactful event experience for players, spectators and those tuning in across the world. The year 2010 saw us deliver the look and feel of the first Ryder Cup to be staged in Wales and in 2014 we were at Gleneagles, Scotland ensuring the new bold blue branding was delivered in spectacular fashion.
Ryder Cup 2018
The latest edition of the Ryder Cup, being contested in France for the very first time, saw 17 of the world’s top 20 golfers competing at Le Golf National course in Paris, and we were on hand to ensure it was the most spectacular event yet.
To elevate the Ryder Cup brand and their sponsors, our team produced, delivered and installed all the event branding, creating a sea of blue across Le Golf National. This comprised all tees, grandstand wraps, directional signs, flagpoles, and giant screens.
Our team overcame numerous challenges that tested even the most experienced members. Strict French regulation limited logistical and staffing options, and the sheer scale of the project meant that the team was on-site for 58 days installing and derigging.
Alongside all on-course branding, we dressed the spectacular Opening and Closing ceremonies, welcoming and rounding off an impressive experience for athletes, visitors, and on-course fans and enhancing the Ryder Cup brand for the millions tuning in through TV and streaming platforms.
Added to all the on-course work, our specialist team worked behind the scenes to design and build a bespoke United States team room at Trianon Palace. Being challenged to completely transform an empty hotel room, we managed to create a luxurious and relaxing environment for the world-class players in the style of a ‘rustic loft apartment’ – echoing the Ralph Lauren look of the team’s outfits. The space featured custom-built bars, complimentary furniture, games tables, a captains board room and more.
The European Team also entrusted us to produce and install the Look & Feel of their team rooms including the ever-important locker room. The environment, fully decorated with high impact graphics and elegant furniture inspired the players whilst providing a sense of focus and calm.
Outcome
Over 50,000 spectators attended The Ryder Cup each day with a global audience of over 500 million watching on television, breaking audience records. With the organiser’s profits surging as well, the Ryder Cup proved to be an immense success, bolstering positive brand recognition.
Our contribution was remarkable, as we crafted an elegant Look and Feel that typifies a sporting event of this magnitude and delivered a colossal and unprecedented sports event branding and wayfinding programme. The feedback received from players and event organisers says it all.
Truly amazing work in the given timeframe. Incredible transformation of a mundane hotel function room into an eloquent space fit for very high-profile US Team’s golfers.
Greatest venue, the greatest stadium any of us have ever played. I don’t think we could have a better crowd, a better venue.
I genuinely don’t think I could be any happier with what you guys managed to put on for us. It looked absolutely incredible and I have never had so much glowing feedback for the presentation of an event.
