Laureus World Sports Awards
We revived the look of the Laureus World Sports Awards, crafting a vibrant and inspiring brand identity for the most prestigious awards in global sport.
Project Overview
We designed a bold and memorable event brand for the Laureus World Sports Awards 2019.
The annual awards, established in 2000, represent an occasion to honour sporting achievements and to celebrate the power of sport to change the world – as they support Laureus Sport for Good, which helps transform the lives of children and young people through supporting 160 community sports projects in 40 countries.
This year’s ceremony saw, once again, the top names of global sport gathered in Monaco and awarded athletes such as Novak Djokovic, Simone Biles and Lindsey Vonn with the iconic “Laureus Statuette”. Team efforts were also recognised with the France National Team being named the “Team of the Year” for their World Cup win and the Indian based NGO “Yuwa” getting the “Sport for Good” award for their efforts in empowering young girls from disadvantaged communities through football.

Creative Identity
Our approach to evolving the awards’ visual identity was to use Laureus’ distinctive brand values and a dynamic diamond motif inspired by Monaco’s coat of arms. Consequently, we devised a brand identity that refreshed the image of Laureus – injecting a sportier, more contemporary look and feel, while retaining the prestige of the awards.
The diamond motif was subsequently used as a holding device for photography, most notably to champion the iconic statuette trophy, but also to hero nominees, academy members, ambassadors and awards winners. Our role in the creative direction of the event extended to the guest and media experiences, activation points, and on-screen graphics.
Outcome
Alongside the recognition from client and guests, the renewed brand had a meaningful impact across social media platforms, with over 16 million people reached on Facebook, more than one million on Instagram and 10.4 million impressions on Twitter. On Weibo, the dominant social media network in China, posts using #Laureus19 saw 50 million impressions. Additionally, sports personalities like Novak Djokovic, Fabregas and Luis Figo promoted Laureus brand.
Working with CSM Live has been fantastic, the awards identity that they designed has been greatly received by all at Laureus and by our esteemed guests. It has given us a fresh and contemporary look and shows the nature of the sports lover’s enthusiasm and positivity
